- Markus Rauramo, CEO of Finnish energy firm Fortum, has been appointed as President of European electricity industry trade association, Eurelectric.
- Rauramo is joined by the Vice Presidents of Eurelectric, composing of Catherine MacGregor, CEO of Engie, and Georgios Stassis, CEO of PPC.
- As Europe’s EV transition progresses, its energy infrastructure will naturally follow, and Rauramo’s new position will play a key part in championing competitiveness and security for the European energy sector.
Markus Rauramo takes over as Eurelectric President
As an association that speaks on behalf of the European electricity industry, Eurelectric is in a key position stimulate the transition to renewable energy, in turn driving uptake of electric vehicles. The group has long-campaigned for a zero-carbon energy industry, not only allowing for cheap, abundant, and environmentally-friendly power, but also allowing Europe to improve energy security and independence in an increasingly uncertain world stage. In his new role, Rauramo will play a key part in driving these aims for Eurelectric.
Under the new presidency, Eurelectric will be working towards these three key priorities:
- Clean electrification to facilitate competitiveness and growth for customers and European industries
- Energy security and security of supply to strengthen Europe’s resilience
- Intelligent power to drive the European digital opportunity and future-proof Europe’s energy system
Eurelectric runs a number of major clean-power related events, including the EV-focused EVision, which we attended earlier this year. Rauramo’s appointment comes just ahead of its Power Summit 2025 event, which will focus on meeting increasing levels of electrification whilst maintaining Europe’s climate goals.
Markus Rauramo, newly-elected Eurelectric President, commented:
“This is no time for hesitation. We must electrify to decarbonise, industrialise to compete, and digitalise to lead. Let us match our ambition with action – and build a secure and resilient Europe that leads, not follows, in the age of clean power. Our industry is committed to working closely with our customers to deliver affordable, reliable and clean electricity at scale and at speed.”
Catherine MacGregor, Vice President of Eurelectric and CEO of Engie, added:
“Europe’s resilience depends on a secure, decarbonised and reliable power system. In a world of rising uncertainties, energy security requires continuous learning and frequent adaptation. Our industry is fully committed to investing in clean energy and further enhancing cross-border cooperation to safeguard our electricity supply.”
Georgios Stassis, Vice President of Eurelectric and CEO of PPC, added:
“Europe’s energy system must be future-proofed through intelligent power. As digitalisation and AI reshape the way we produce, manage, and consume electricity, the power sector has a unique opportunity to lead this transformation. By embracing digital innovation, we can position Europe at the forefront of the global clean-tech and AI revolution – while building an energy system that is secure, efficient, and ready for the future.”
