- MAN Truck has delivered the first of a significant fleet of fully-electric HGVs, set to be delivered to German automotive logistics firm, Duvenbeck.
- The truck chosen is the MAN eTGX Ultra Low Liner, tailored specifically for use in automotive delivery applications, with a drivable range of approximately 500 kilometres.
- With this electrified fleet, Duvenbeck, which already assists with logistics within Volkswagen Group’s supply chain, will also help to decarbonise the vehicle manufacturer’s supply chain – in part, helping both firms to achieve their low-emission aims.
MAN begins delivering eTrucks to Duvenbeck
With the first electric MAN truck having been delivered, Duvenbeck plans to receive another 119 units by 2026. These eHGVs will be put into service in both the Benelux and Rhine-Rhur regions, forming part of Volkswagen Group’s plant logistics. Duvenbeck is already pushing heavily on the sustainability front, with an aim towards emission-free logistics. These electric MAN trucks will play a key role in this.
This agreement with Duvenbeck is also a win for MAN, who are heavily invested in electrification. After its smaller electric eTGL was revealed earlier this year, its entire truck range is now available in fully-electric form – opening its sales up to an even wider cohort of customers.
Friedrich Baumann, Chief Sales & Customer Solutions Officer at MAN Truck & Bus, commented:
“With the Ultra Low Liner eTruck, MAN has developed a solution that is perfectly tailored to the requirements of the automotive industry. No other series-produced electric semitrailer tractor can pull trailers with an interior height of three meters. This makes it the ideal choice for transports with high volume requirements. We are delighted to have two strong partners at our side, Duvenbeck and Volkswagen, to bring this innovation to the road.”
Simon Motter, Head of Volkswagen Group Logistics, explained the importance of Duvenbeck’s new fleet for its operations:
“Our partner Duvenbeck is taking a bold step forward: MAN eTrucks are being used for the first time at the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg. This means that the technology’s suitability for everyday use and cost-effectiveness can now be proven. The use of MAN eTrucks is part of the goTOzero impact logistics program, with which Volkswagen has embarked on the path to consistently climate-friendly logistics. In the long term, the use of electric trucks is the most important lever for reducing CO2 emissions in road transportation. Where the strategically prioritized use of rail with green electricity is not possible, for example due to a lack of rail connections, BEV trucks with green electricity are favored. In the cross-modal concept, they are used according to their strengths: Rail on long-distance routes, emission-friendly trucks on pre-carriage and onward carriage as well as on short and medium-distance routes.
