- With the reveal of its new fully-electric 12-tonne truck, the Man eTGL, at this week’s IAA Transportation in Hannover, MAN Trucks now offers a fully-electric variant of all trucks in its range, ranging from twelve to 50-tonners.
- The new 12-tonne eTGL steps into the same market that the original 12 tonner from Volta Trucks occupied.
MAN’s new eTGL rounds off the manufacturer’s BEV portfolio
At this week’s IAA Transportation, MAN Truck and Bus revealed its eTGL for the first time, a 12-tonne, fully-electric truck, designed for light cargo transport. Range has been pinned at around 146 miles (235 kilometres), while a fast charge time of 30 minutes will be on offer. Depending on the body used, payloads of up to 6,600kg will be possible on the new model. MAN believe this model will be a particular best-seller, with its more urban-focused usage helping businesses to meet increasingly tight noise and emissions laws in urban areas. The eTGL offers a viable alternative to the Volta Zero, also available in 12-tonne form, which is also expected to re-enter production this year.
The eTGL joins MAN’s existing electric truck portfolio, which consists of the flagship electric long hauler, the eTGX, and its heavy payload-focused eTGS. This means that the manufacturer now offers a complete range of electrified trucks, for every possible application. For even smaller loads, the company already offers an electric van, in the form of the MAN eTGE. Alongside recent plans drawn up between MAN Truck and Bus and E.ON, to create Europe’s largest electric truck-specific charging network, the company is on the right track for a decarbonised future, and to meet its goal of 50% of all new MAN trucks sold in Europe to be battery-electric, by 2030.
Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus, commented on the launch:
“With the new eTGL, MAN is becoming a true full-range provider in the field of electromobility. From night-time supermarket deliveries to heavy-duty long-distance transport, MAN offers transport companies zero-emission drives from a single source. The approximately 2,000 orders and order enquiries for our eTGX and eTGS already show that our modular battery concept for individual deployment, body and range requirements meets the needs of our customers. With its high payload, short charging times and optimum range for urban logistics, the eTGL perfectly rounds off our eTruck portfolio”.
