Mahindra and Volkswagen sign supply agreement to integrate VW battery components in upcoming SUVs

Mahindra and Volkswagen Group have inked a pivotal supply agreement. This deal involves integrating electric components from Volkswagen’s MEB into Mahindra’s electric platform, INGLO. This marks a significant stride in their joint vision for the electric future. The companies are building on their initial partnering agreement and term sheet established in 2022.

Mahindra will become the first external partner to embrace Volkswagen’s cutting-edge unified cell concept. The concept is a cornerstone of the German automaker’s battery strategy. The supply agreement, spanning several years, will to reach a substantial volume of about 50 GWh. Together, they will fortify their emobility foothold in the Indian automotive market and expedite the electrification momentum in the region.

The collaboration doesn’t stop there. Mahindra has ambitious plans to introduce five all-electric SUVs in India, with the rollout set to commence in December 2024. India’s electrification wave will surge forward in the passenger car segment through the next few years.

Volkswagen’s MEB platform, a stalwart in the electric vehicle landscape, and its components have found homes across various Group brands and external partners, including Ford and now Mahindra. This partnership is steered by Volkswagen Group Technology and its “Platform Business” unit, working closely with Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd.
