Etrucks Partners with Windrose Technology to Bring Long-Range Electric Trucks to New Zealand
Auckland-based distributor Etrucks is teaming up with Chinese electric heavy-duty truck developer Windrose Technology. Together, the companies will introduce long-range electric trucks to New Zealand.
Ross Linton, Director of Etrucks, commented:
“The duration and speed of charging of the Windrose E1400 moves the boundaries significantly for electric heavy transport.
We can now offer an affordable zero-emission freight option to the longer haul sector.”
Etrucks has placed an order for 20 units. The first sample of the Windrose E1400 6×4 semi-truck will arrive in September for local testing. Production orders will start in mid-2025.
The Windrose E1400 features a 729kWh battery, capable of travelling 670km on a single charge while carrying up to 49 tonnes. This opens the possibility for freight journeys from Auckland to Wellington with minimal charging. That’s a major shipping route covered without even stopping.
The truck supports megawatt charging or dual gun CCS2, adding 400km of range in just 35 minutes. The truck’s spaceship-like design alludes to its aerodynamic efficiency. The EV has a drag coefficient of just 0.2755, whereas average trucks sit between 0.8 – 1.0.
Despite the advanced aerodynamics, it doesn’t skimp on power. The dual-drive axles deliver a peak power of 1040kW (1400hp), and the truck can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 22 seconds, even when fully loaded.
Wen Han, CEO of Windrose Technology, explained the significance of the New Zealand market:
“Windrose is aiming to the first truly global EV truck brand for China, Europe, the US, Australia, New Zealand, and many other markets to come.
By designing a zero-emissions vehicle from the ground up, Windrose is able to bring an EV truck that has performance comparable with or better than diesel trucks, while costing less money than diesel trucking over the lifetime of trucks.”
It’s great to see electric trucks making their way to more major markets. With massive advancements in charging, and electric truck efficiency, we’re slowly building towards a global interconnected shipping web, driven by electric freight.
