  • Kia has revealed the UK pricing for its recently revealed electric hatchback and saloon duo, the EV4.
  • Designed to compete with both electric hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and electric saloons such as the Tesla Model 3, the EV4 is set to start from £34,695 in five-door hatchback form, with prices rising to £43,895.
  • With order books opening today, the first examples are set to be delivered to UK customers in the autumn.

The Kia EV4 goes on sale in the UK

Order books for the new Kia EV4 have now opened in the UK, but for now, it’s just the hatchback shaped EV4 that’ll be sold. The saloon-bodied EV4 ‘Fastback’ is set to arrive at a later date, making the EV4 a viable alternative to other cars like the Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3.

The most affordable option will be the Kia EV4 ‘Air’, with prices starting at £34,695. This will grant you a battery capacity of 58.3kWh, allowing for a claimed range of 273 miles. Rising to £37,695, the Air can be specified with a higher capacity 81.4kWh unit, allowing for a range of up to 388 miles.

That latter model offers one of the best ranges available for a relatively affordable electric car, making the EV4 a more enticing option against its electric hatchback rivals. That record range figure is achieved partly thanks to the EV4 hatchback’s low drag coefficient of 0.27Cd, made possible thanks to features such as a near-full body undercover, as well as active air flaps in the front bumper which open and close to create an optimum balance between both cooling efficiency and aerodynamics.

Meanwhile, the ‘GT-Line’ and top-specification ‘GT-Line S’ start at £39,395 and £43,895 respectively, with both having the larger 81.4kWh battery pack as standard. No matter which specification you go for, power comes from a front-driven electric motor offering up 201 horsepower – enough for 0-62mph in around 7.5 seconds, and a top speed of 105mph. All models are also capable of ultra-rapid charging, allowing the 10-80% charge sprint to take place in approximately half an hour, on a 350kW public charger.
