The CUPRA Born VZ will be hitting UK and European markets later this year

CUPRA’s latest electric offering, the Born VZ, is a performance-based electric beast. This high-powered model boasts a robust 240kW/545Nm motor, propelling it from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.7 seconds and maxing out at an impressive 200km/h.

The interior matches the sporty philosophy, featuring the exclusive CUP Bucket seats and steering wheel-mounted regenerative paddle shifts. CUPRA has fine-tuned the driving experience with improved braking, sturdier suspension, and heightened responsiveness in both steering and pedal dynamics. Seemingly, CUPRA is keen to replicate the petrol driving experience with the electric twist we’ve come to love.

Two new 20-inch alloy wheel options and fresh colour choices contribute to the facelift. The addition of the VZ logo on the rear serves as a subtle but significant indicator of its enhanced capabilities.

Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA UK, commented:

“The CUPRA Born was a milestone for the brand when we launched the model in 2021 as our first 100% electric vehicle. And it’s delivered exceptionally, with 45,300 units sold last year, an increase of 44.4% compared to the year before. With the CUPRA Born VZ, we will bring even more performance to this model, proving once again that electrification and performance are a perfect match.”

The Born VZ’s powertrain offers an impressive 40% power boost over its predecessor. Torque sees an impressive increase to 545Nm, resulting in a swift 5.7-second acceleration to 100km/h. The DCC Sport suspension, responsive steering, and refined brake pedal feel collectively contribute to a superior driving experience.

This EV achieves a substantial range of up to 570km (355 miles) on a single charge. The 79kWh battery pack, a 2kWh upgrade, ensures practicality. Charging options cater to various needs, with home charging via an 11kW AC system or rapid DC 170kW charging, providing an impressive 10-80% charge in just 30 minutes.

Internally, the sporty cup bucket seats are made from upcycled SEAQUAL® yarn textile and DINAMICA. The rear, benefitting from chassis enhancements, accommodates both five passengers and a sunroof. Regenerative paddle shifts add a nuanced layer of control, allowing drivers to fine-tune energy recuperation.

In terms of tech, the Born VZ boasts a larger 12.9-inch infotainment system. It integrates touchscreen inputs with a retro illuminated touch bar for climate and volume control. Safety features, including Travel Assist 2.6, Remote Park Assist, and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems, underscore its commitment to a comprehensive driving experience.

Launching in the third quarter of 2024, the CUPRA Born VZ will become a formidable contender in the electric vehicle landscape. It promises high performance with all the electric mod-cons. We’re waiting on the pricing information in the summer, but until then, we’ll be eagerly anticipating this tech-loaded electric powerhouse.
