Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric car now available to order in the UK

Hyundai’s new all-electric IONIQ 5 is available to order now in the UK with prices starting from £36,995. The sleek-looking IONIQ 5 electric vehicle (EV) uses eco-friendly materials, including those extracted from sugar cane, where possible which makes it both desirable and sustainable.

The new zero-emissions hatchback style car offers up to 298 miles (480km) of range and can accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100kph) in as little as 5.2 seconds. It’s able to fast charge and can be ‘fuelled up’ to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. It can also be charged to 62 miles (100km) of driving range in five minutes.

This is Hyundai’s first car in the new electric vehicle exclusive IONIQ sub-brand. It is also the Korean carmakers first Hyundai built on its new dedicated E-GMP battery-electric vehicle platform.

Hyundai offers three model variants of the IONIQ 5. There’s a 58kWh rear-wheel-drive, a 73kWh rear-wheel-drive and a 73kWh all-wheel-drive. The top-end 72.6 kWh all-wheel-drive version is a nippy little mover with a top speed of 115mph (185kph) and can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100kph) in just 5.2 seconds.

IONIQ 5 will be available in three specification levels, SE Connect, Premium and Ultimate. These join the comprehensively equipped special launch edition Project 45.

The Project 45 edition was oversubscribed by three times just 24 hours after reservations first opened showing that the demand for zero-emissions vehicles is increasing rapidly.

We expect to see more electric cars from Hyundai who are going all out of the zero-emissions driving front. They have already said that they will offer 10 electric cars in the US by 2022. With the electric market in Europe and the UK so strong we expect to see many of them too.

Ashley Andrew, Hyundai Motor UK managing director, said: “The IONIQ 5 is a watershed moment in the history of Hyundai, as the very first model built on our new Electric Vehicle-dedicated platform.

“Demand for IONIQ 5 in the UK and across the world has been staggering, and we’re excited to be able to open order books today to our customers.”

Deliveries will of the new IONIQ 5 will begin from the middle of summer.
