Gregory Group is sticking to its rapid decarbonisation strategy with six new Volvo FE Electric trucks
Gregory Group has adopted six new Volvo FE Electric 4×2 curtainsiders to its fleet. These zero-emission trucks are part of a broader agreement with Volvo Trucks, including 50 ultra-efficient FH with I-Save tractor units.
Paul Jefferson, Group Legal, Fleet & Sustainability Director at Gregory Group, says:
“The latest intake from Volvo Trucks marks a significant fleet renewal strategy to replace older diesel models, as we look to drive down the emissions across our operation in our bid to be net zero by 2038.
The FE Electrics play a key role in that. As part of the trial, we worked closely with Volvo to establish the routes and operations most suitable for electric. They will primarily be used for deliveries in busy towns and city centres, across multiple parts of the business. The FH with I-Save tractor units will join our national distribution fleet and be deployed on longer distance trunking and tramping operations.”
The FE Electrics will primarily serve busy towns and city centres, while the FH with I-Save tractor units will handle longer-distance operations. This strategic update is a key part of Gregory Group’s sustainability plans.
In recent years, Volvo has supplied 35 FH gas-powered trucks to Gregory Group. This supports the company’s annual goal of transitioning at least 5% of its fleet to cleaner fuels.
The new electric trucks will be based at six depots: Cullompton, Plymouth, Avonmouth, Winsford, Glasgow, and Aberdeen. They will recharge overnight using newly installed 43kW AC chargers provided by Volvo Trucks.
Feedback from the trial was overwhelmingly positive, with drivers praising the trucks’ performance and consistent torque on hills. The six FE Electrics are under a five-year contract-hire agreement with Volvo Financial Services. That includes a comprehensive Volvo Gold Contract for maintenance and repairs.
