FlixBus partners with ETO Motors to bring fully-electric coaches to India

  • FlixBus, which operates coach and bus services across a wide number of countries internationally, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Indian emobility firm ETO Motors.
  • The agreement will result in fully-electric coaches being added to the Indian FlixBus fleet, with the first four set to be in operation as soon as next month.
  • FlixBus only entered the Indian market in 2024, but this rapid deployment of zero-emission transport since its entry highlights both FlixBus and India’s commitment to decarbonisation.

FlixBus to deploy four electric coaches in India next month

As part of the agreement and in the longer term beyond the deployment of four electric buses next month, the two firms will combine their specific expertise to work together on developing bus charging infrastructure along key routes operated by FlixBus, and on creating a framework for future emobility expansion.

Surya Khurana, Managing Director of FlixBus India, commented on the partnership:

“Across the world, we are actively running numerous green and alternative fuel initiatives, and we are excited to bring the same commitment to sustainability to India. At FlixBus, we are proud to leverage our global expertise in intercity transport and technology-driven solutions to support the country’s EV mission.”

Rajeev YSR, Group Chief Marketing Officer at ETO Group, added:

“This partnership enables us to offer end to end solutions to the Indian commuters from first mile, last mile and including the middle mile / intercity operations. We are accordingly developing the charging infrastructure across the country to not only support these operations but some of them would also be public thus aiding the EV adoption in India.”

While FlixBux focuses on longer-distance public transport, India itself has set a separate goal of deploying a minimum of 100,000 urban electric buses to the country’s roads by 2030, in another significant decarbonisation effort. FlixBus has already been piloting electric coaches in its UK operations, with the wider group hoping to hit carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040.
