- After unveiling its design last month, FIAT has revealed more details on its upcoming EV, the Grande Panda.
- The new car, in fully electric form, will target a starting price under £22,000 / €25,000, making it the cheapest FIAT EV yet.
- As the name suggests, the Grande Panda takes on a boxier, SUV-style shape compared to its Panda predecessor.
FIAT’s cheap EV for the masses gets closer
The Grande Panda embodies a lot of retro design elements, which is becoming ever more commonplace in recent EV debuts: Just look at the new Renault 5 EV, Hyundai IONIQ 5, and FIAT’s own 500e. It’s thoroughly up to date though, including an integrated charging cable, which is simply pulled from the side of the car into a charge point – with no need to leave the cable loose in the boot. Plus, despite its low cost, the 44kWh battery and 83kW motor combination will offer a range of up to 195 miles. With the sub-£22k price FIAT is targeting, the Grande Panda will be approximately £3k cheaper than the entry-level 500e, whilst offering a similar level of range and more practicality, and is set to arrive by 2025.
Based on the same underlying Stellantis architecture as the Citroen e-C3, the Grande Panda will match the e-C3’s low price tag, marking the duo as the cheapest electric cars sold from Stellantis so far. Competition in this particular price point is rising further, with the upcoming launch of the Hyundai Inster, hoping to take a slice of the B segment pie.
