Pod Point Plug & Power offer sees EDF and Pod Point slash home EV charging

EDF and Pod Point have teamed up to launch a groundbreaking home EV charger and energy tariff bundle. This new offering aims to reduce the upfront costs of going electric, making it easier and more affordable for drivers to make the switch.

The bundle, called “Pod Point Plug & Power,” offers the Pod Point Solo 3S charger at a discounted upfront cost of £499—significantly lower than the usual £1,099. The remaining costs are spread over two years and integrated into the customer’s energy tariff. This makes it a cost-effective solution for those looking to install a home EV charger.

The tariff itself is priced at £2,139 per year for an average dual-fuel household. It includes cheap overnight electricity rates of 8.49p per kWh from 12 AM to 5 AM, making it ideal for EV charging. Drivers could save up to £538 per year compared to running a petrol car and £460 compared to using public charging stations.

Melanie Lane, CEO at Pod Point, commented:

“We’re delighted to partner with EDF on this industry-first bundle, giving drivers an all-in-one solution to charge their EVs at home, with the benefit of low-cost, overnight electricity. We’ve seen dedicated EV tariffs become a key consideration for drivers, as well as the need for a home charger that gives them great value, and so we integrated both elements and launched the Plug & Power bundle, making EV driving even easier and more affordable.”

The Solo 3S charger also comes with a 5-year warranty and standard installation. Customers can easily manage their charging through the Pod Point app. To sign up, drivers need a smart meter and must opt into half-hourly readings.

This development brings EDF and Pod Point closer to a total EV solution.
