Daimler Truck launches its RIZON electric trucks in Canada

  • RIZON, Daimler Truck’s all-electric subsidiary, has launched its class 4-5 trucks in the Canadian market.
  • The Class 4 and 5 trucks on offer are capable of weight loads ranging from 15,995lbs (7.26 tonnes) to 18,850lbs (8.55 tonnes).
  • The electric trucks will be showcased at Toronto’s Truck World event this April, before preorders start in June.

Canada gets RIZON trucks

Daimler Truck’s range of RIZON electric trucks, which have been available in the United States since last year, are on their way to Canada, with four model variants available offering different levels of battery range, ranging from 177km to 257km, and various weight loading capabilities. Canada is known for its harsh winters, and RIZON hasn’t forgotten about this for the Canadian market. All trucks feature battery preconditioning, getting the batteries to the optimal temperature while plugged in charging before journeys begin. This is also combined with a heated seat, windshield, and steering wheel.

Canada has a target for net-zero emissions by 2050, and the country’s subsequent “Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty-Zero-Vehicles” (iMHZEV) programme makes the RIZON truck range a particularly attractive proposition. Its electric trucks are eligible for $75,000 worth of federal incentives, while another $75,000 is available on top for buyers within the provinces of British Columbia and Quebec.

Global head of RIZON Truck, Andreas Deuschle, commented:

“Canada is very advanced regarding green energy and infrastructure, and is a natural next step for RIZON’s second market… So, we are very happy to bring our zero-emission solution to Canadian customers.”
