Islington Council brings Compleo on board to help electrify its fleet with £1.2 million charging solutions

Compleo UK has secured a major £1.2 million project with Islington Council to electrify its fleet of over 550 vehicles. The installation of new electric vehicle (EV) chargers will take place over the next two years, with the first chargers arriving in early 2025. This move is a key part of Islington’s ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.

Councillor Rowena Champion, Executive Member for Environment, said:

“We’re committed to creating a greener, healthier Islington, and this partnership with Compleo is a vital step in reducing our carbon footprint and improving air quality for our residents. By electrifying our fleet, we are leading by example and showing that sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand. Compleo’s expertise and innovative charging solutions will help make sure our services run in the most environmentally-friendly way possible.“

The project will install a mix of AC, DC, and high-speed chargers at several key locations, primarily the council’s waste and recycling centre at Cottage Road. This site will become the hub for charging a diverse fleet, which includes electric cars, coaches, and tipper trucks.

Islington Council is already known for its commitment to sustainability, and this project further strengthens that reputation. It also contributes to the city’s border efforts to make transportation more eco-friendly. Those efforts include new EV bus fleets and boat services.

Matthew Downs, Head of Business Development at Compleo UK, commented:

“We’re thrilled to support such a forward-thinking council such as Islington. They are always looking ahead for sustainable solutions and we’re proud to supply them with future proof EV charging solutions”

This project will make Islington one of the greenest councils in London, leading by example for a cleaner, capital city.
