The EV Network is bringing three new EV charging hubs to Cheltenham
Cheltenham is launching three new EV charging hubs in car parks across the town by the end of 2024. The EV Network, a leading provider of EV infrastructure, is delivering and managing the hubs. They will feature 26 rapid charging bays across three key car parks: St James Street, Bath Terrace, and Church Piece.
Cllr Alisha Lewis, cabinet member for finance and assets, at Cheltenham Borough Council, said:
“Our partnership with The EV Network in these first three sites marks a milestone in our efforts to improve and promote sustainable transport options in Cheltenham. While electric vehicles are only part of the solution, it’s important that we do what we can to ensure people have convenient charging options in our car parks.”
Each charging point will offer a full charge in just 20 to 40 minutes, catering to the growing number of EV users in Cheltenham. The council has timed the November launch to coincide with the town’s busy festive season.
This initiative is part of Cheltenham Borough Council’s broader commitment to becoming a net-zero borough by 2030. This is in accordance with its 2019 climate emergency declaration. The development of these charging hubs is a priority in the town’s “Carbon Neutral Cheltenham” report.
The report emphasised the need for robust EV infrastructure to support the transition. This action is necessary across the nation, and the world, as increased infrastructure is called upon to support upcoming EV adoption. The entire town has been focussing on EVs of late, with Cheltenham Town FC adopting a new EV sponsor just weeks ago.
Reza Shaybani, CEO and co-founder of The EV Network continued:
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Cheltenham Borough Council to deliver high-powered charging infrastructure throughout the borough. This initiative will play a vital role in supporting the growing number of electric vehicle users in Cheltenham and will contribute significantly to the town’s sustainability goals. Our aim is to provide convenient, reliable, and superfast charging solutions that meet the needs of both current and future EV owners.”
These new charging hubs will play a crucial role in Cheltenham’s path towards its 2030 targets. This kind of project will be necessary on a global scale to facilitate the transition.
