New EV charging hub opens in Sheffield to tackle air pollution

Sheffield’s air pollution problem is serious, causing one in 20 deaths each year. A new nine-bay ultra-rapid EV Charging Hub has been launched by Be.EV at Parkway Central Retail Park.

Every day, over 66,000 vehicles pass by the hub, contributing to high pollution levels. The site is ready to meet growing EV demand with ultra-rapid Kempower chargers that can add up to 165 miles of range in just 20 minutes. Currently, the hub has nine charging bays but is designed to expand to 20 as adoption rises.

Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, commented:

”The air pollution deaths statistics in Sheffield are shocking and need to be drastically reduced. The Clean Air Zone introduced last year is a great start, but encouraging people to switch to EVs by giving them access to convenient public charging is the key way to finish the job.

Charging infrastructure will go a long way to driving this. We need to make it as easy as possible for drivers to make the shift to driving EVs, and this ultra-rapid charging hub at Parkway is a step in the right direction.

Fleet drivers make up a significant part of the UK’s motoring community and they need convenient charging more than most. It’s a key priority of ours to make Be.EV synonymous with the fleet community.”

To celebrate the launch, Be.EV is offering half-price charging for app users on Thursday, November 7th. Visitors can also enjoy free hot drink vouchers for Starbucks and a 10% discount on future coffee purchases. Importantly, the site includes accessible bays and accommodates large vehicles with no height restrictions—ideal for fleet drivers, who make up around 40% of all road vehicles.

Backed by funding from NatWest and KfW-IPEX Bank, Be.EV’s mission is to connect underserved communities with EV infrastructure. This new hub is just one piece of the puzzle, but it’s a step toward a cleaner, healthier future for Sheffield, and the UK.
