Building an active and electric capital: London’s Santander ebike scheme cuts prices

  • From April 6, Santander and TfL are lowering prices for the Santander ebike hire scheme to make cycling more affordable.
  • The Day Pass now offers unlimited one-hour rides for £3.50, and a single 30-minute e-bike ride will cost £3.00.
  • TfL aims to make cycling more accessible with these price cuts, along with a 200% increase in e-bikes and improvements to cycling infrastructure.

London supports active travel with price cuts on the Santander ebike programme

Starting April 6, 2025, Transport for London (TfL) and Santander will reduce prices for Santander Cycles. In doing so, they’re making cycling more affordable and encouraging more people to use ebikes for short trips around the city.

The Day Pass, which previously allowed unlimited 30-minute rides for £3.00, will now offer unlimited one-hour rides for £3.50. A single 30-minute ebike ride will also drop from £3.30 to £3.00.

These price cuts come after feedback from users of the scheme. Many suggested that lower prices would make it easier for more Londoners to give cycling a try. TfL hopes the changes will help make the scheme more accessible and promote sustainable transport options.

David Eddington, Head of Cycle Hire at TfL, commented:

“Santander Cycles has shown it is a vital part of London’s transport system and is used by tens of thousands of Londoners and tourists every day.

We want to ensure that these tariff changes provide even more Londoners with an affordable and sustainable way to get around the capital and that Santander Cycles will provide even better value for money and remain accessible for all.”

The price of annual and monthly subscriptions will remain unchanged at £120 per year and £20 per month. This stability will help users who prefer long-term options over single rides.

In addition to the price cuts, the Santander ebike scheme has expanded significantly. Last January, the bank added 1,400 ebikes to its London fleet. This expansion, combined with the price reductions, is part of TfL’s ongoing effort to make cycling a safer and more attractive option for all Londoners.

TfL continues to improve cycling infrastructure and road safety to help make cycling feel like a “normal” activity for more people. Ebike usage is positive lifestyle improvement for people, cities, and the planet.
