The best performance EVs in 2026
Alpine A290

The Alpine A290 is a great sporting EV, and is also the most affordable car on our list. Heavily based on the popular Renault 5 EV, the A290 brings more power to the table, sportier styling, and improved handling.
Power stands at 220 horsepower, enough to deliver 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds – all whilst remaining a compact size with seating for five, making this a practical all-rounder.
Hyundai IONIQ 5 N

As a hatchback that offers comparable levels of interior space to an electric SUV, the performance variant of Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 has two drastically different personalities. One day, it can be used as a practical family EV, whilst the next day it can easily set a sub-eight minute lap time at the notorious Nurburgring Nordschleife track – beating the time set by many petrol-powered sports cars.
In a growing trend for electric sports cars, the IONIQ 5 N also packs the option of a fake engine note, complete with simulated redlines and gear changes like you’d see on an ICE car. There’s also enough external aero and visual tweaks to set it apart from the standard IONIQ 5.
BMW i4 M60

The standard BMW i4 is already an excellent EV, but its performance variant, the M60, is a stand out, combining a four-door coupe shape with blistering levels of acceleration, whilst helping to bring BMW’s M badge into the EV era.
The i4 M60 delivers 601 horsepower through an all-wheel-drive system, allowing for a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 140mph. Even with this performance, the i4 M60 can still deliver up to 338 miles of range on a single charge.
MG Cyberster

As well as being one of the best electric sports cars, the MG Cyberster is also one of the best electric convertible cars you can buy right now. It’s the first dedicated sports car we’ve seen from the MG brand, since it was acquired by China’s SAIC back in 2007.
For those who don’t need a convertible roof, MG plans to bring a hard-topped and lighter variant of the Cyberster to market in the near future, called the Cyber GTS.
Porsche Taycan

No matter which specification of the Porsche Taycan you go for, you’re getting a serious EV performance experience, with the transfer of Porsche’s motorsport pedigree into the EV era.
The standout car of the range is the Taycan Turbo GT. As the fastest model with 1,019 horsepower, it makes it the most powerful production Porsche ever produced. All Taycans also benefit from 320kW ultra-rapid charging compatibility.
Coming soon: Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI

Volkswagen will soon bring its legendary GTI badge onto an EV for the first time. The ID. Polo is expected to launch later this year as the first fully-electric generation of the longstanding Polo model, and the lineup will also include a performance-oriented ID. Polo GTI hot hatchback.
