- UK charge point operator, Be.EV, has announced a £1.8 million charging partnership with brewery and pub operators, JW Lees.
- The deal will result in the installation of 22 ultra-rapid charging bays across JW Lees’ North-West locations, with some existing EV infrastructure also being upgraded and modernised.
- Installation of these chargers will provide convenient charging for an estimated 12,500 EV drivers in the local area, with the chargers also available for those not visiting the pubs.
More ultra-rapid chargers coming to the North-West
Ultra-rapid charging bays have already opened at five pubs in the region as a result of this deal, with more set to be constructed at two additional pub locations over the coming months.
Recent regulations require newly built non-residential buildings, with more than ten parking spaces, to provide at least one EV charge point – while every one in five other spots must have cable routing for EV charging. With this legislation, Be.EV is hoping that such installations will serve as a footprint for other property owners to work with the CPO.
Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, commented:
“Regional partnerships are a cornerstone to the regeneration of our local areas, and we’re proud to be partnering with such a well-established northern business. Our charging hubs will offer JW Lees pub-goers a convenient moment to charge their car, and the chain is getting ahead of the curve by providing reliable, high-quality charging facilities for their customers so they can charge and drive responsibly. Some of the sites had charging technology that needed an upgrade. Fast chargers are already becoming outdated, and pub landlords need to consider upgrading their technology before they fall even further behind.”
William Lees-Jones, Managing Director at JW Lees, added:
“As an EV driver myself for the last five years I know how important it is for drivers to have reliable, affordable and convenient EV chargers at pubs and at JW Lees we are working with Be.EV to make our pubs best in class in terms of EV provision.”
