Be.EV and Decathlon begin UK-wide ultra-rapid charging hub roll-out at Stockport store

  • Be.EV and Decathlon launched an ultra-rapid charging hub with 15 bays at Decathlon’s Stockport store.
  • This partnership supports Decathlon’s Transition 2026 plan to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% by 2026.
  • Supported by significant funding, Be.EV plans to establish 1,000 rapid charge points across the UK in 2024.

Be.EV and Decathlon announced their partnership in December to roll-out ultra-rapid charging hubs at stores across the UK

Be.EV and Decathlon launched their EV charging team-up last December, now, the collaboration’s ultra-rapid charging hub at Decathlon’s Stockport store is underway. The store will feature 15 ultra-rapid 150kW charging bays, including one fully PAS-compliant bay.

This partnership marks Decathlon UK’s first collaboration with a public charging network. The Stockport store is one of the largest in the UK. It attracts up to 20,000 visitors weekly, largely thanks to its position next to the M60, which sees over 83,000 vehicles daily. This makes it a prime location for electric vehicle (EV) drivers to recharge while shopping.

The state-of-the-art Kempower chargers can power a vehicle to 80% in just 20 minutes, compared to the 4-6 hours required by standard 7kW fast chargers. These chargers also feature smart load-balancing technology, which ensures efficient energy distribution between vehicles based on demand.

This initiative is part of Decathlon’s Transition 2026 plan, aimed at reducing CO2 emissions by 20% by 2026. Octopus Energy Generation has supported Be.EV’s infrastructure expansion with a funding boost of £110 million. A recent injection of £55 million from NatWest and KfW IPEX-Bank is massively boosting this endeavour. That funding was explicitly slated to establish 1,000 rapid and ultra-rapid charge points across the UK in 2024. The Stockport charging hub is just the beginning, with plans to roll out ultra-rapid charging solutions at select Decathlon stores nationwide.

The new charging hub at Stockport is expected to be completed by September, but it’s the continued roll-out that we’re excited to watch unfold.
