- Another near 5,000 electric vans are set to join Amazon’s delivery partner’s fleets in Europe, with the vans being supplied by Mercedes-Benz.
- Consisting of eSprinter and eVito panel van models, the deployment will help further expand Amazon’s zero-emission delivery fleet.
- Combined, the new electric vans will assist in delivering more than 200 million parcels annually.
Amazon expands its electric van fleet in Europe
These additional Mercedes-Benz electric vans are set to be delivered to five European countries over the coming months, with over half of the order being destined for Germany. It’s not the first batch of electric Mercedes-Benz vans Amazon has in operation, after taking delivery of over 1,800 such models back in 2020. The two firms intend to continue this partnership, which indicates that Amazon could adopt even more electric vans from the manufacturer in the future.
Previously in Europe, Amazon has also reached out to Mercedes-Benz’s trucking arm to electrify its longer-distance logistics fleet, with the company placing an order for 200 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks earlier this year for operations in Germany and the UK.
Sagree Sardien, Head of Sales & Marketing for Mercedes‑Benz Vans, commented:
“I am delighted that we are further intensifying our long-standing relationship with Amazon and are working together towards the fully electric future of transportation. The courier, express, and parcel service industry once again proves to be a key driver of electromobility. Our eVito and eSprinter are perfectly tailored to meet the demands of our commercial customers regarding efficiency and range. They demonstrate that locally CO₂-emission-free driving, impressive performance, comfort, and low operating costs can be perfectly combined.”
Neil Emery, Director of Global Fleet & Product at Amazon, added:
“This deployment of 5,000 electric delivery vans further underscores our work to reduce carbon emissions in our operations. From electric bikes to vans to trucks and infrastructure, we are well on our way to transforming our transportation network. We look forward to continuing to work with Mercedes‑Benz to enable even faster electrification and decarbonisation across Europe.”
