- Ahead of its debut at the Paris Motor Show next week, Alpine has revealed photos and information on the Alpine A390_β – a five-door, all-electric sports car, joining the Alpine A290 as the second EV from the Renault-owned performance brand.
- The ‘beta’ signature in the name indicates the car’s current pre-production stage, though Alpine notes that 85% of this concept’s exterior design will remain true to the final, road-going version.
- With its more practical form, and SUV-coupe shape that is becoming ever-more popular amongst car buyers, the A390 could have the potential to be a relatively large seller for Alpine.
The second performance EV from Alpine
This A390_β offers an insight into what the final production version will look like, adoping a fastback shape that combines both sports car styling and everyday usability. Whilst full performance figures haven’t been confirmed just yet, we do know that the A390 will pack a tri-electric motor setup, typically the reserve of other high-performance EVs like the Tesla Model S Plaid, with power being delivered to all four wheels, to help it maintain high levels of grip and stability.

The concept hints at how the production car could also maintain sustainability, with the floor of the vehicle made from a high-performance carbon material, made out of recycled materials from the aerospace and photovoltaic industries. This also helps reduce the weight of the A390_β, which improves both acceleration, handling, and energy efficiency. Whether that B pillar-less door opening will make it to the production model remains to be seen – but Mazda managed it with their recent MX30 EV.
The interior photos of the concept also reveal motorsport inspiration, with supportive seats, and an F1 style steering wheel. A closer look at the steering wheel reveals an ‘overtake’ button, which did make it onto the final A290 – suggesting that this EV will also have the ability to deliver even more driving power at crucial moments.

Full production of the A390 is set to commence next year, so we should see the finished product, along with pricing and full specifications, in the near future. For Alpine’s previous EV, it was only a few months from the A290_β concept to the full reveal, earlier this year.
Alpine CEO, Philippe Krief, commented on the reveal:
“A390_β previews the future Alpine sport fastback, which we have designed like an A110 with 5 seats. The duality between the racing spirit and the refinement of this show car embodies the performance and driving experience that we will deliver from 2025 onwards in our production vehicle, produced in France at the historic Dieppe Manufacture. More than the promise of a 100% Alpine experience, it’s a genuine commitment.”
