Aerovolt and SLiNK-TECH partner to create drone delivery system, for healthcare

  • In a significant partnership between the worlds of emobility and healthcare, electric aircraft charging network, Aerovolt, along with vertiport specialists SLiNK-TECH, will build a drone delivery system to benefit the world of healthcare.
  • A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two companies, with the duo agreeing to bring together their individual areas of expertise to design and build a suitable system.
  • The partnership carries on from work between the two companies and the Snowdonia Aerospace Centre.

A new, zero-emission way to deliver blood?

The two firms helped create a vertiport at the Snowdonia Aerospace Centre earlier this year, which exists as the UK’s only commercial aircraft testing zone with permanent restricted access, and this has led to conversations with Welsh public health provider, NHS Wales, to see if the solution has use in the health sector – particularly when it comes to transporting blood and other life-saving products. Under this new agreement, the two firms are aiming to create an integrated solution, that will be both cost-effective and easily scalable, that could be ready to support the healthcare sector as early as next year

Guy Hadon, Chief Commercial Officer at Aerovolt, commented:

“Aerovolt are thrilled to partner with both SLiNK-TECH and Snowdonia Aerospace Centre at the forefront of real-world drone tech application, and even more excited about the potential applications for our technology within the Welsh NHS, and the practical life-saving benefit that it can have.”

Assistant Director of Research & Innovation for Welsh Ambulance Service University NHS Trust, Professor Nigel Rees QAM, added:

“Drones hold enormous potential in healthcare, from the delivery of supplies to the deployment of life-saving products and devices. This project and our collaboration with the Welsh Health Drone Network is furthering our understandings of how a safe, efficient, well-regulated and integrated network of drones may be achieved to support the NHS for the people of Wales.”

The announcement has made it a busy week for the crossing of the emobility and emergency sector this week, after UK-based White Motorcycle Concepts revealed a fully-electric motorbike designed for emergency use, such as paramedics.
