Zenobē announces $100 million investment for Australian electric truck rollout

Zenobē looks to double the number of heavy electric trucks on Australia's roads by end of 2026 with new significant investment.
  • Fleet electrification specialists Zenobē have announced $100 million worth of investment, set to accelerate the rollout of electric truck fleets across Australia.
  • With around 1,000 heavy electric trucks currently operating on Australia’s roads, Zenobē hopes this new funding will double this figure to 2,000 by the end of the year.
  • Electric trucks open up a wealth of potential cost savings to fleet operators, particularly in light of rising oil prices around the world.

Could the number of heavy electric trucks in Australia double by the end of the year?

Zenobē offers an end-to-end fleet solution for operators looking to go electric, and with that in mind, the $100 million worth of investment announced will fund not just the electric trucks themselves, but all the infrastructure surrounding them – including charging infrastructure, future battery replacements, and deployment.

The firm hopes this method will break down barriers to electric heavy vehicle adoption, whilst also ensuring that the total cost of ownership is equal or lower than the equivalent diesel-powered heavy vehicle.

Approximately 56% of Australia’s truck fleet is now over a decade old, which means that an increasing number of operators are looking to switch to new vehicles – and Zenobē is hoping that many of those operators will choose to go electric through its vehicle service. By the end of 2026, Zenobē reckons this investment will push the number of heavy commercial electric trucks operating in the country from the current figure of 1,000, to 2,000.

Zenobē has previously rolled out infrastructure in Australia to encourage more operators to make the switch. Late last year, it opened Australia’s first off-site electric truck charging hub, allowing electric truck operators to charge up away from the depot.

Gareth Ridge, Country Director, Australia and New Zealand at Zenobē, commented:

“The direction we set in the next five years will define the trajectory for the next two decades. Our goal is simple: to make the transition total cost of ownership neutral so the sustainable choice is also the commercial one.”
