- Geely-owned pure EV brand, Zeekr, have revealed the 7X, a midsize electric SUV set to compete with cars such as the Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4.
- The 7X is being pushed heavily as a family-friendly car, with what Zeekr says is more headroom and legroom than existing midsize SUVs, a 600-plus litre boot, and 32 separate storage compartments within the interior.
- Boasting an 800-volt architecture, the Zeekr 7X is also capable of a fast charge time of 10-80% in just 10.5 minutes.
New Zeekr EV set for global release
The standard car will come equipped with a 75kWh battery pack, composed of lithium-iron phosphate cells. This should be enough for a driveable range of around 375 miles (605km). A longer-range variant will also be introduced, with a 100kWh battery pack, using nickel manganese cobalt cells, to help give an increased range of 485 miles (780km). The latter will be class leading when it comes to range in the EV world, and right on par with the range you’d expect out of a similar ICE SUV, which could be what is needed to convince prospective EV buyers still hesitant to switch, when it comes to range. The 7X is powerful, too. Whilst Zeekr haven’t revealed full performance details just yet, in dual-motor setup, it will be capable of a 0-62mph time of just 3.8 seconds.
Whilst initially launching in China, with deliveries set to start in the country next month, the 7X is primed for a global release, with deliveries for other regions set to start within the next year. This’ll make it Zeekr’s second world model, after the Zeekr X. The 7X is not the only electric SUV from the wider Geely group to be revealed this month. Just earlier this week, the smart #5 was revealed, likely with a similar price tag to the 7X. However, its rugged, utilitarian shape should help it differentiate itself from the 7X once both hit the market.
