- The first dealerships to open are in Nottingham and Southampton, with more XPENG retail sites opening in the near future.
- XPENG’s first EV for the UK, the G6, is a midsize electric SUV set to take on existing models like the Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4.
XPENG opens its first UK dealer locations
It remains to be seen what other XPENG models, alongside the G6 SUV, will hit the UK market in the coming months and years. In left-hand-drive countries in mainland Europe, XPENG has already brought models such as its G9 large SUV and P7 saloon to market, which could also be finding their way to the UK in the future. XPENG’s expansion into the UK was achieved in conjunction with International Motors, who exist as the official distributor of XPENG vehicles in the country. International Motors also serves as the distributor for Chinese EV brand, GWM.
XPENG and International Motors have significant ambitions for the brand within the UK. By the end of the year, there is set to be 20 to 25 individual locations live across the UK.
William Brown, Managing Director of International Motors Limited, commented on the launch, and expressed his belief that the XPENG could be a serious alternative to brands that have had a recent hit to their reputation (without explicitly mentioning Tesla). With the XPENG G6 priced from £39,990, it already marks a significant saving over the Model Y’s entry-level price of £44,990.
William Brown commented:
“The opening of our first UK retailers and the arrival of the XPENG G6 is a crucial moment for our business and for British car buyers. The G6 is an advanced, premium all-electric SUV, perfectly sized for UK roads. It has been designed and developed to redefine consumer expectations, with everyday real-world usability that has been honed to exceed the requirements of owners and drivers, without compromise.
An important central pillar of the XPENG brand is to create products that customers can feel proud to buy and own. While others in the industry court controversy, XPENG has remained laser-focused on what truly matters: perfecting smart, high-performance electric vehicles that push the boundaries of technology without the distractions of controversy.”
