- Chinese EV brand, XPENG, is already selling its vehicles in a number of European territories such as France, Germany, and Sweden, and now the UK is confirmed to be adding to that list from next year, after selecting a distributor for the country.
- European-based distributors International Motors Ltd, who already serve as a UK distributor for automotive OEMs such as Subaru, GWM ORA, and Isuzu, will be the official UK distributor for the portfolio of XPENG EVs set to hit the UK’s shores in the coming months and years.
- The UK launch will kick off in early 2025 with the arrival of the XPENG G6, a sub-£45k electric SUV set to compete with the likes of the Tesla Model Y and Ford Explorer.
XPENG picks official UK distributor as it nears country launch
A UK launch of XPENG was already indicated to be right around the corner ahead of this announcement. First came XPENG’s presence of the G6 at this summer’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, and then, over the past few weeks, ElectricDrives spotted multiple examples of right-hand-drive XPENG G6 EVs in their testing phase on UK roads (as seen left).
Now, this confirmation of an official distribution partner for the country highlights that the launch of the brand is just around the corner. Other XPENG models, beyond the G6, are also set to make their way to the UK after the G6’s initial debut.
In the UK, XPENG won’t face the same additional 21.3% EU import tariff that it’s set to face in many other European markets. While UK pricing hasn’t been confirmed, this advantage could allow it to be priced even more competitively against rivals in the country. The brand is setting its sights further than just Europe, as it hopes to offer its EVs in over 60 global markets by the end of next year.
William Brown, Managing Director of International Motors Ltd, commented:
“We are delighted to formally announce a distributor partnership with XPENG. IML has been working with XPENG for some time, and this was highlighted with the UK debut of the XPENG G6 at the world-famous Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year. This new long-term agreement demonstrates IML’s ambition to seek alliances with forward-thinking partners that share the company’s values. Both parties look forward to launching the impressive G6 to UK customers in early 2025.”
Alex Tang, Head of International Business at XPENG, added:
“Our partnership with IM Group marks an important step in XPENG’s global expansion. We are excited to introduce UK consumers to a new standard in electric mobility, combining innovative technology with exceptional design to deliver an unparalleled experience that meets the demands of today’s drivers. With a vision for AI-defined mobility, we aim to revolutionize the driving experience in the UK, making it safer, smarter, more sustainable and more pleasant in the near future.”
