- The Microlino, a tiny two-seater all-electric quadricycle, is inspired by the original bubble car, the BMW Isetta, and is designed to be the perfect answer to emission-free urban transportation.
- The micromobility package, which is already available in several European countries such as Switzerland and The Netherlands, is also making its way to the UK.
- Here’s everything you need to know about the Microlino.
What is it for?
Inspired by the design of the BMW Isetta from the 1950s, affectionately nicknamed the ‘bubble car’, the Microlino is a modern, all-electric take on that. Micro is the company behind the Microlino, and you might have heard of them before – it’s the same company who’ve sold over 90 million kick scooters. It pitches the tiny EV as a replacement for a second car used in the city, with space for two, and the ability to parallel park sideways, thanks to its short length. That doesn’t mean it isn’t still capable of doing trips further afield, with the top-range Microlino capable of reaching 56mph (90km/h), along with a maximum range of 142 miles (228km).
Price and Performance
Two levels of the Microlino are offered. The Lite, starting at approximately €16,600, has a drivable range of 93km, and a limited top speed of 45km/h, which means it can be driven on a moped license as opposed to a full driving license. Alternatively, this model can be purchased on a lease, for approximately €150 a month.
The standard model takes things up a notch, with an increased top speed of 90km/h, a range of up to 228km, alongside visual tweaks such as additional chrome accents and vegan leather. This model starts at around €18,000, depending on the market.
Is the Microlino coming to the UK?
Microlino has confirmed that its EV will go on sale in the UK this year. The steering wheel will remain on the left-hand-size to reduce complexity, but judging by the very narrow width of the Microlino, this should not be a problem at all – and will, conveniently, allow kerbside exit for drivers parking on the left. The Microlino will also be showcased at the EV Summit, this July.
