WeaveGrid partners with GM Energy to connect EV drivers with energy programs

WeaveGrid partners with GM Energy to connect 250,000+ bidirectional GM EVs with US utility programs

Grid software provider WeaveGrid is collaborating with GM Energy to give eligible Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac EV drivers in the US access to energy grid programs across the US. The partnership spans managed charging, bidirectional charging, and residential energy storage, helping make use of the 250,000-plus bidirectional-capable GM EVs already on American roads.

WeaveGrid, which provides grid-edge orchestration software to electric utilities, will support access to utility programs for GM EV owners nationwide. The collaboration aligns with General Motors’ wider vehicle-to-home (V2H) push, and is designed to help drivers participate in programs that support a more affordable and reliable electric grid.

Through WeaveGrid’s platform, eligible owners of bidirectionalGM EVs will be able to enrol in utility programs where available. The same applies to households equipped with GM Energy’s vehicle-to-home (V2H) systems. The GM Energy V2H Bundle will enable compatible EVs to send power into a home, with grid export (V2G) to follow in future, while the GM Energy Home System adds optional stationary storage through a PowerBank battery.

The partnership reflects a broader shift in how grid operators view EVs. As adoption grows, utilities are increasingly treating vehicles and home batteries as energy tools that can be called on to balance demand rather than simply add to it. With a quarter-million bidirectional-capable vehicles already in customers’ driveways, GM’s fleet represents one of the largest pools of that capacity in the US.

Mathias Bell, VP of Market Development and Partnerships at WeaveGrid, commented:

“GM Energy’s work across EVs, charging, and home energy reflects where the grid is heading. Managed charging is one of the most important near-term opportunities for utilities, and the same foundation can support a broader set of grid services, from distribution-level orchestration to bidirectional charging and residential storage. Working with GM Energy helps make these programs easier for customers to participate in and more valuable for utilities to operate.”
