Volvo Trucks breaks ground: four models, including award-winning FH Electric, approved for UK government’s £25,000 plug-in grant

Volvo Trucks has made a notable achievement in the UK trucking industry. They’ve gained approval from the government for four different low-emission truck models. That makes them the first manufacturer eligible for the Government’s plug-in grant, offering up to £25,000 on new registrations. Among them is the Volvo FH Electric, the winner of the International Truck of the Year 2024.

The FH Electric and FM Electric have received the green light, available as 4×2 tractor units with a full complement of six batteries. What’s more, the FM Electric can be customised to meet the three-star Direct Vision Standard.

Both models come together in the Volvo fleet, including the Volvo FL Electric 4×2 rigid and the FE Electric 6×2 rigid. Both of these have already received approval for the grant.

The large truck grant scheme allows businesses, organisations, or individuals to receive up to five grants per year. Each grant holds a value of £25,000, with an annual market cap set at 100. After reaching this limit, the grant amount decreases to £16,000 for the subsequent 250 grants, and each entity can receive a maximum of 10 grants. After reaching this stage, the maximum application amount is £5,000, subject to a 1,500 grants per customer limit. It’s a structured process with varying levels of support.

Hannah Mayo, Director of New Vehicle Sales, Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland, said:

“The availability of our full range of electric vehicles represents a new era in road transport, and demonstrates our clear market leadership in electromobility. We ended last year with more than 250 electric truck orders secured for the UK and Irish markets. With the grant now extended to include the FH and FM Electric, there’s an extra incentive for UK fleets to begin the transition. Plus, with the grant scheme soon resetting for the new financial year, it’s the perfect time to be preparing applications.”

Stepping into the future of transportation, Volvo Trucks demonstrates its clear commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. Dealers, well-versed in the grant application process, stand ready to facilitate customers in securing new registrations. With these cutting-edge vehicles already in production and available for order today, Volvo Trucks positions itself at the forefront of the evolving landscape, driving towards a cleaner and more efficient tomorrow. The journey ahead is electric, and Volvo Trucks leads the charge in shaping a sustainable future for transport.
