- Volvo Cars released its June sales report, highlighting that the manufacturer shifted 18,435 fully electric cars last month.
- From January to June, this number now stands at 90,760. Will Volvo crack the 200k EV sales mark before the end of the year?
- Sales of all car types was up 8% from the same month last year, which Volvo says can be primarily attributed to the success of its new EX30 electric SUV.
Electrified Volvo sales near 100k so far this year
Volvo classifies its ‘electrified models’ as including plug-in hybrids too, with a rise of 41% over the same period last year. Taking the plug-in hybrids away, and looking purely at fully electric models, the rise is even more impressive – with 18,435 sold in June 2024, compared to 9,535 in June 2023 – a 93% increase.
The majority of these EV sales came from Europe, where 14,016 fully-electric models were sold in June – accounting for a significant 38% of the 36,474 cars sold across all powertrain types in the region. That was up from 5,487 Volvo BEVs sold in Europe in June 2023, marking a 155% rise. These figures highlight Volvo’s hard drive for electrification, planning to go fully electric by 2030. In comparison, European EV market share across all manufacturers stands at approximately 14.4%, according to Schmidt Automotive Research.
Björn Annwall, Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy CEO at Volvo Cars, commented:
“As June comes to a close, the sales figures for the month are proof of the successful steps we have taken toward our long-term strategic direction and the continued demand for our cars. I am particularly pleased by the continued strong sales performance of the EX30.”
