Volkswagen Group’s electric vehicle (EV) global deliveries up 25 per cent in 2022

The Volkswagen Group has continued to drive forward its successful global electric offensive. Global deliveries of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) were up 25 per cent in the first nine months year-on-year.

Despite ongoing supply constraints, 366,400 BEVs have been handed over to customers until the end of September. This is up from 293,000 for the same period last year. The BEV share of total deliveries climbed to six per cent in that timeframe, up from 4.2 per cent in the same period of 2021.

China

China saw the biggest increase in electric vehicle deliveries in the first three quarters of 2022. It saw112,700 BEVs delivered in the first three quarters of 2022. This was up from 47,100 for the same period in 20221 and represents an impressive 139.3 per cent increase.

During the recent third quarter, 49,200 deliveries were made in China compared to 28,000 for the same period in 2021. This is a 70.8 per cent increase.

Europe

Europe clearly remained the leader in overall deliveries in 2022 for Volkswagen,  with 211,900 vehicles (58 per cent of Group total) in the first nine months. This was up from 209,900 for the same period and represents a one per cent increase over the same period in 2021.

During the recent third quarter, 83,100 deliveries were made in Europe compared to 81,800 for the same period in 2021. This is a 1.6 per cent increase.

USA

During the first three quarters of 2022, the USA saw 28,900 deliveries made. For the same period in 2021, this was 27,300 and represents a 5.9 per cent increase.

During the recent third quarter, 12,000 deliveries were made in the USA compared to 8,800 for the same period in 2021. This is a 35.8 per cent increase.

By the end of September, the Volkswagen brand delivered 207,200 BEVs to customers (57 per cent of Group total). This was followed by Audi with 77,000 vehicles (21 per cent of Group total), ŠKODA with 36,900 vehicles (10 per cent of Group total), Porsche with 25,100 vehicles (7 per cent of Group total), and SEAT/CUPRA with 17,600 vehicles (5 per cent of Group total).

This is good news for Volkswagen and the growth in electric car sales, despite the global shortage of semiconductors. Earlier this year, it was announced earlier this year that Volkswagen have sold out of electric vehicles (EVs) for the year in Europe and the USA according to a feature in the Financial Times. This was because persistent supply chain bottlenecks have hit the German carmaker’s global production.

Hildegard Wortmann, Volkswagen Group Member of the Extended Executive Committee, said: “Customers love our brands’ all-electric model range which is the broadest in the industry.

“Due to the strong demand and ongoing supply constraints, our order bank remains on a high level. However, we reached a BEV share of 6.8 per cent in Q3, the highest so far this year.”
