Volkswagen Group to unveil first EVs from electric off-road brand, Scout Motors

  • Reborn as an all-electric off-roader brand, Scout Motors, which the Volkswagen Group obtained the rights to after acquiring its parent company Navistar back in 2020, will unveil its first EV offerings next month.
  • The reveal will come ahead of the two EVs beginning production in South Carolina, by the end of 2026.
  • The confirmation comes from a teaser image shown by the brand, showing both an electric SUV and electric pick-up, with a reveal date set for the 24th of October.

Volkswagen-owned US EV brand set for October reveal

The two EVs will begin production in late 2026 at a specially-built facility in the US state of South Carolina, which is currently under construction, at a cost of around $1.97 billion. Concepts of these two EVs are set to be revealed in late October, but how much information will be revealed on the duo on the date, is not yet known. A teaser silhouette of the Scout SUV’s front end has already been released by the brand, however.

The two Scout Motors EVs set to be produced will rival rugged alternatives such as the Tesla Cybertruck and Ford F-150 Lightning, as well as offering an alternative to ICE-powered cars in the same segment such as the Ford Bronco. However, the reveal date also comes soon after VW invested a significant $5bn into a joint venture with Rivian, who produce what seems will be similar EVs to those offered by Scout Motors. Volkswagen is remaining committed to both manufacturers, however, and the combination will open significant doors for Volkswagen in the electric off-road sector. Whether Rivian and Scout Motors EVs end up sharing platforms, or technology, in the same fashion that the Skoda Enyaq relates to the Volkswagen ID.4, for example, remains to be seen.
