The standout achievement was the robust growth of all-electric vehicles (BEVs), which experienced a substantial 34.7% increase, propelling the numbers to an impressive 771,100 units. This surge underscored the group’s commitment to advancing its electric mobility agenda.
The share of BEVs in the total delivery landscape rose prominently to 8.3%, a significant uptick from the 6.9% recorded in 2022. This not only showcases the increasing consumer appetite for electric vehicles but also reflects the group’s adeptness in navigating the evolving automotive landscape.
Geographically, the success of EV sales was widespread.
In Europe, where the automotive landscape has been particularly receptive to electric mobility, deliveries surged by 19.7% to 3,774,500 vehicles. The BEV segment, in particular, witnessed a remarkable 34.2% increase, accounting for 12.5% of total deliveries.
North America followed suit with a robust 17.9% increase in deliveries to 993,100 vehicles. The United States, a key market for the group, contributed significantly with 713,100 vehicles, marking a 13.0% increase from the previous year. The adoption of all-electric models played a pivotal role, with a 60.8% surge to 71,000 vehicles and a BEV share of 10.0%.
In the Asia-Pacific region, specifically in China, the world’s largest automotive market, the group achieved a commendable 1.6% growth. It reached 3,236,100 vehicles despite a challenging market environment. The all-electric models recorded a noteworthy 23.2% surge to 191,800 vehicles, contributing to a BEV share of 5.9%.
Globally, the Volkswagen Group’s commitment to electric mobility was further emphasised by the success of specific models. The Volkswagen ID.4/ID.5, ID.3, Audi Q4 e-tron, ŠKODA Enyaq iV, Audi Q8 e-tron, CUPRA Born, Porsche Taycan, and Volkswagen ID. Buzz2 emerged as the most successful all-electric models in 2023.
