- The two millionth EV sold by Volkswagen was an ID.3, produced in Zwickau, Germany. This facility is located in the western part of Saxony, Germany. The car was delivered to a customer at the Transparent Factory in Dresden.
- The Volkswagen board member for sales, marketing, and after sales said “two million all-electric vehicles provide clear evidence of the attractiveness and competitiveness of our all-electric portfolio”.
- Volkswagen is one of the leading sellers in the battery electric vehicle market, selling 983,100 examples in 2025, marking a significant increase from around 750,000 vehicles sold in 2024. Examples include the ID.3 to the ID.7, which dominate the European BEV market and are trusted by many customers.
Volkswagen reaches delivery milestone
The lucky two millionth customer was Kirsten Vormbrock and her wife Tina, with the sale taking place at the transparent factory in Dresden. The delivery also included Sales Manager Arnd Meyer-Classen and Product Expert Robert Paradivi.
Volkswagen first started selling a wide variety of electric cars from 2013, with the first high mass produced electric car being the E-Golf. Since the start of this, it has expanded massively with the latest model being the ID.7, which is known for its long term efficiency and a high level of comfort.
The two million BEVs sold range from the now-discontinued E-Up! to the modern ID.7. Volkswagen has named itself on being the most reliable car brands, this is shown as it leads the European BEV market with the most units sold, selling 217,000 more BEVs than second place. This statistic shows the brand’s strong position in the market and its commitment to sustainability and innovation. The Volkswagen brand is also one of the largest car brands in the world, cementing their position on being a strong force in the BEV market.
Martin Sander, Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales, commented:
“We laid the foundations for electromobility early on and are driving our transformation to an all-electric future with clear strategic priority. Our strong market position, particularly in Germany and Europe, confirms the attractiveness and competitiveness of our electric portfolio.”
ID.3, ID.4 AND ID.7; The backbone of success for Volkswagen.
These three models show the success of Volkswagen’s brand. The ID.3 was the first electric model to be a massive success for the German car brand, selling approximately 628,000 of these so far. This model was the first of the ID. family, and arguably the most important.
