Britain’s cycling city welcomes 100 new Voi ebikes
Ebike rentals are taking the world by storm, with an estimated 30,000 on the streets of London alone. Now, Oxford is taking these electric city-hoppers to another level.
Voi is introducing a fleet of 100 ebikes to Oxford this Summer. To use the ebikes, individuals need to register with Voi and unlock the bikes via the Voi app. Unlike escooters, riding the ebikes does not require a driving license. You can pick these two-wheelers up from the same bays as the escooters that Oxford is already familiar with. Interestingly, the battery is even compatible between the two.
James Bolton, General Manager for Voi UK, stated:
“We are sure people in Oxford will find our e-bikes a great addition to transport options in the city. We’ve had brilliant feedback from riders when we’ve launched this new e-bike in other locations in the UK and abroad.”
The pricing structure for ebikes mirrors that of escooters, and Voi offers the same discounts for both services. These new ebikes feature automatic gears that adjust to riding conditions and a low step-through frame for easy mounting.
Safety is top priority for any company offering these hop-on ebikes. These models come with high-grip tyres, a powerful braking system, automatic front and rear lights, and reflectors.
Councillor Liz Leffman, leader of Oxfordshire County Council, added:
“Offering more opportunities for people to move around Oxford easily is very welcome. I’m very excited that the city is now benefitting from public bike hire that can be easily accessed and presents the chance to use e-bikes in city travel without cost being an obstacle.”
These ebikes are a fantastic addition to Oxford’s transport ecosystem. Spreading rentable ebikes across cities is an excellent way to get people riding, by making pedal-power the most convenient, and often quickest, way of getting around town. Not only will this deployment make more people ride, but it’ll make more people fall in love with the power of ebikes.
Rollouts and ebike initiatives just like this one will be discussed at length by industry-leading professionals at this year’s EBIKE SUMMIT. Fittingly, the event will be held in the heart of Oxford on the 20th of September. Find out more, here – https://www.ebikesummit.org/
