VEV is providing high-power charging for Stagecoach bus depots across the UK
Stagecoach is accelerating its EV transition with a major new partnership. VEV has been appointed to install high-powered charging infrastructure across four Stagecoach depots: Leamington, Nuneaton, Rugby, and Chesterfield. This project will power more than 150 electric buses.
VEV is also bringing solar power to three depots in Chesterfield, Leamington, and Nuneaton. This renewable addition will reduce reliance on the national grid, easing the emobility transition’s reliance on pre-existing infrastructure. Furthermore, the addition is projected to save Stagecoach over £1 million in energy costs over the project’s lifetime.
Claire Miles, CEO of Stagecoach said:
“The trip to Colombia was extremely useful and I learned a great deal from being there. I was particularly impressed by the clean, quiet electrified depot and the scale of the operation. Seeing first-hand the power of digital technology to run a huge 100% electric fleet was enlightening. The depth of VEV’s expertise in this field was a key draw for Stagecoach, and we’re pleased to work with them on our electrification projects, leveraging their global experience to drive our sustainability goals forward.”
On top of this, Stagecoach is trialling a unique business-to-business (B2B) charging hub in Aberdeen. The hub will allow third parties to use the chargers when buses are out during the day. In doing so, they’ll maximise charger efficiency and make secure additional income. VEV’s digital platform, VEV-IQ, will manage these hubs, monitoring demand and scheduling to optimise usage.
This partnership combines expertise from two complimentary tech and travel specialists. By pooling resources like this, we are providing significant momentum to the emobility transition in making the net-zero solutions as efficient, and accessible, as possible.
