Canoo brings US expertise to the UK’s vital electric fleets market with new Bicester Motion base
Canoo, an innovative US-based EV manufacturer, continues its global expansion with a UK hub at Bicester Motion in Oxfordshire. The company will use the 444-acre site as its commercial operations and activation centre.
Founded in 2017, Canoo designs cutting-edge EVs and digital ecosystems. They already operates in the US and supplies fleets in the UK and Middle East. As the UK’s fleet sector gains serious momentum, the time to establish yourself in the market couldn’t be better.
The Bicester Motion site puts Canoo in the heart of Motorsport Valley, tapping into local expertise and UK government incentives like the Plug-In Van Grant.
Canoo has secured major partnerships, including with Walmart for delivery EVs and NASA for crew transport. Recently, its LDV190 van was named “Overall Electric Vehicle of the Year.” The company also launched its right-hand drive models in the UK, and received the regulatory green light last month.
Canoo CEO, Tony Aquila, said:
“Canoo’s mission is to bring EVs to everyone. We have chosen Bicester Motion as an iconic automative campus that reflects the company’s spirit of innovation and commitment to sustainability. As a former WWII Royal Air Force base, the decision for Bicester Motion to be our UK centre reflects the long-standing partnership with the United States and UK, a relationship built on shared values, economic collaboration and mutual trust. Through our partnership, we aim to strengthen Canoo’s UK presence while driving forward our mission of delivering sustainable mobility solutions globally.
This move signifies a pivotal step in Canoo’s global expansion, setting the stage for the company to introduce groundbreaking commercial electric vehicle (EV) solutions to the UK.”
The new base will help Canoo introduce its innovative EVs to UK customers and support the country’s zero-emissions goals. As fleets become ever more important to the EV transition, Canoo’s entrance will spark new movement in the UK market.
