Toyota, which plans to launch 30 electric vehicles by 2030, is now ready for the bZ4X electric SUV’s introduction across Europe. This is the brand’s first electric vehicle (EV) in Toyota’s bZ (Beyond Zero) battery electric vehicle (BEV) range.
The bZ4X is built on a dedicated new platform for battery electric vehicles (BEVs), using Toyota’s eTNGA philosophy and is the first in a series of new bZ models. Subaru will also share this platform with Toyota, which are a part-owner of the brand.
The new Toyota bZ4X comes with 71.4kWh battery that Toyota guarantees a battery capacity of 70 percent after 10 years or 1,000,000 km driven. This in turn delivers a range of up to 320 miles (516km) for the front-wheel-drive model with an efficiency rating of 14.3 kWh/100km or 7km/kWh.
There’s also an all-wheel-drive system that uses individual electric motors on the front and rear axles offering better handling capabilities.
It’s good to see the Japanese carmaker launch its first all-electric vehicle. It feels a little late, especially when you consider how popular the Prius hybrid electric vehicle has been since it was launched 25 years ago but with the announcement of 30 electric vehicles in its range by 2030, it shows Toyota sees electric vehicles as the future.
Prices for the bZ4X start from £41,950 for the front-wheel-drive models and £48,350 for the all-wheel-drive models. The bZ4X Premiere Edition will start from £51,550.
Customer deliveries in the first markets are expected from summer this year.
