Electric milestone: GM and EVgo expand across the US with over 2,000 public EV charge points

General Motors and EVgo have hit a major milestone. They’ve installed their 2,000th public EV charging stall in Murrieta, California. This achievement helps GM meet its goal of having most of its planned 2,850 fast-charging stalls ready by the end of 2023.

The new station, located near Interstate 215 in Riverside County, features five 350kW fast chargers. It can charge up to 10 electric vehicles at once. Currently, all chargers use the CCS standard. However, EVgo is testing Tesla’s NACS connector, which is becoming the industry standard. Once testing is complete, EVgo plans to retrofit existing stations to include NACS.

The partnership between GM and EVgo has brought public chargers to more than 30 states. EVgo themselves posted a record quarter earlier this year.

GM also has other plans in the works. It’s building a separate network of 2,000 chargers at Flying J and Pilot truck stops.

This milestone is a step forward in making EV charging more accessible nationwide. It reflects the growing trend towards emobility in the US. Moreso, it’s a vital step towards increasing the North American charging network to eliminate charging anxiety and make EVs work for all Americans.
