The popularity of its electric cars helps MG Motor expand its dealer network in the UK

The popularity of MG’s battery electric vehicles have seen the company turn itself around and become one of the most popular car brands in recent years. So much so that it plans to have 50 percent of its cars electric this year. As a consequence of its popularity, MG will add three new dealerships to its growing portfolio.

The company saw record figures for electric cars in 2020. For example, in September 2020 MG saw sales increase 169 percent increase over 2019 with 3,668 sales. Of these sales, 1,176 were for its MG ZS EV zero-emission electric sports utility vehicle (SUV). This is over a third of sales which shows the popularity of the MG ZS EV and how tastes are changing rapidly.

The three new MG dealerships will open their doors in North and East Yorkshire as the UK’s fastest-growing car brand continues its network expansion. The new showrooms are part of the Yorkshire-based Minstergate group, with the MG sites strategically located in York, Hessle and Scarborough.

Mark Campey, Minstergate chief executive, said: “MG’s rapid growth and electric vehicle leadership makes it a great brand to bring into our portfolio and we’re excited to open our new MG Motor sites in Yorkshire.

“The electric vehicle market is evolving rapidly and MG’s model range offers terrific value for money, great tech and a brilliant warranty package, all of which we believe will be very attractive to customers at our York, Hessle and Scarborough sites.”

MG Motors are gearing up to increase its network to 130 dealers by the end of 2021, with the three Minstergate sites being a key part of its development strategy. With a range now encompassing six models and a rapidly growing reputation for offering affordable electric cars for everyone, the brand has seen 28 new sites join its network in the past 12 months. MG currently has two battery-electric cars including the hugely popular MG ZS EV and the All New MG5 EV launched in autumn 2020, along with the MG HS Plug-in hybrid.

Guy Pigounakis, MG Motors commercial director, said: “As the UK’s fastest-growing car brand, the appointment of Minstergate to our network is a key strategic move. MG is also the definitive leader in affordable electric motoring and encapsulates the idea of electric for everyone, something that our dealers, and our customers, can’t get enough of.”
