Tesla Semi electric truck confirmed for European launch

Tesla Semi will come to Europe, taking on established options from Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz, and more.

Tesla has confirmed that its Tesla Semi electric HGV will be arriving in Europe in the future, confirming on X that the electric truck will be on display at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany, next month. It follows high-volume Tesla Semi production kicking off in North America earlier this year, following previous pilot deployments with firms such as PepsiCo.

A firm launch window is yet to be confirmed, but it marks the arrival of yet another option for logistics firms making the switch to electric vehicles, with all the main European truck firms, such as Volvo, Scania, and Mercedes-Benz already offering fully-electric options.

Information on Tesla’s European landing pages gives us more information on the configuration of Europe-bound Tesla Semis. Range will stand at a claimed 550 kilometres (341 miles), but there’s no information on whether the longer range variant of the Semi will also make its way across the pond.

Drive power will stand at over 1,000 horsepower, and notably the maximum charging speed is rated at 800kW, despite US Tesla Semis being rated for charging speeds of up to 1.2MW. Thanks to the MCS charge port, however, European Tesla Semis should be able to benefit from the growing European network of public megawatt truck chargers from firms such as Milence.

Pricing is yet to be confirmed. However, US pricing gives us a hint as to what we could expect, where the standard range model currently costs $260,000, while the long range model costs closer to the $300,000 mark. For more solid details on the European-spec Tesla Semis, we’re likely to hear much more information when it’s on display at IAA Transportation this September.
