Tesla adds Performance variant to updated Model Y
Months after Tesla launched its updated Model Y, bringing a new exterior look along with multiple technological changes, the firm has now reintroduced the Performance variant that we previously saw on the pre-Juniper generation. With 460 horsepower, the new Model Y Performance is actually down on power compared to the previous generation’s 527 horsepower, but it looks as if Tesla has still worked its magic here with the use of its latest Performance 4DU drive unit, allowing for higher thermal and power limits than previous generation motors. Partly thanks to this, the 0-60 mph time now stands at 3.3 seconds, compared to the old Model Y Performance’s 3.8 seconds.

The Model Y Performance once again highlights again how unlike in combustion vehicles, a powerful vehicle does not have to equal poor running economics. Drive it sensibly, and Tesla claims that it’ll achieve an efficiency of 26.07kWh per 100 miles, enabling a total range of around 360 miles – making it one of the most efficient performance EVs on the market.
Other changes over the standard Model Y include updated front and rear fascias for improved aerodynamics, performance sports seats, upgraded brakes, suspension setup, and more. Tesla’s Model Y Performance is already available to order, with customer deliveries set to begin across September and October.
