Tesla is working on something special, a Californian supercharger station with 164 stalls

Tesla is currently constructing what is poised to be the largest Supercharger station globally. The Californian facility will feature an impressive 164 stalls upon completion. This reaffirms Tesla’s commitment to bolstering its Supercharger network across the United States.

Situated near Lost Hills off Highway 46 in Kern County, the station’s blueprints reveal intriguing details. These include 16 pull-through stalls and solar canopies adorning each parking spot. The project, aptly labelled a Supercharger station and microgrid, signals a holistic approach toward sustainable energy integration. The incorporation of Tesla Megapacks suggests a dedicated effort to store power generated by the accompanying solar infrastructure.

Of particular interest is the speculation surrounding a potential solar farm adjacent to the charging stations. While the plans hint at this possibility, it remains unconfirmed. Clues such as a “maintenance gate” and a 150-foot designation in the plans point toward the prospect of a solar farm complementing the Supercharger station.

Presently, the record for the largest Supercharger station is held by the Harris Ranch Supercharger in Coalinga, California, boasting 98 stalls. Tesla’s ambitious endeavour aims to surpass this benchmark, underscoring the company’s swift expansion in the electric vehicle charging infrastructure landscape. At the time of reporting, Tesla has notched over 2,000 active Supercharger stations in the U.S., with 2,728 active stations in the country and 3,004 spanning North America.

Beyond this colossal Supercharger project, Tesla is diversifying its offerings with a distinctive station underway in Los Angeles. This venture transcends traditional charging stations, incorporating a diner and drive-in theatre. Envisioned by CEO Elon Musk since 2018, this unique concept promises an immersive experience, featuring short clips from cinematic classics, a 1950s-style ambiance, and waitstaff on roller skates.

Tesla’s expansion of the Supercharger network reflects a strategic move to address the charging demands of the burgeoning EV market. The company has boasted the US’s most expansive and reliable charging network for some years. As the EV sector takes off in the region, expansions such as these will be essential to maintaining the crown.
