- Leapmotor International, the joint venture split 51/49 between Stellantis and Leapmotor, has opened order books for two new Leapmotor-branded EVs, in Europe.
- This includes the T03, a compact EV starting at €18,900 (£15,735) to rival the likes of the Dacia Spring, and the C10, an electric SUV starting at €36,400 (£30,305).
- The two new EVs were showcased in Europe for the first time, this week.
Leapmotor brings another budget EV to Europe
Order books for the compact, four-seater T03 will open at the end of this month, while the C10 will be available to order from October. The T03 hatchback will be a key model for Stellantis, being one of the most affordable EVs offered by the conglomerate – excluding the less-practical Citroen Ami.
Leapmotor will serve as the 15th specific brand sold by Stellantis, with the T03 specifically being manufactured in Poland – helping it to achieve this low price, by avoiding the European Union tariffs imposed on electric vehicles manufactured within China. Other Chinese EV makers, such as Chery and XPENG, are reviewing a similar stategy here. With Stellantis owning a majority 51% stake in Leapmotor International, the T03 can be thought of as Stellantis’ answer to its key rival Renault Group’s own budget EV: The Dacia Spring, both with near identical starting prices. The C10, on the other hand, will be built in China and exported for European sales. Stellantis has not ruled out also manufacturing this EV within Europe too, however.
