SEAT reports a record year in 2023, hitting new sustainability milestones and decarbonising across the board

SEAT S.A. has put its money where its mouth is, and achieved record-breaking sustainability milestones in 2023. The company has substantially reduced its emissions and usage since 2010. The headline stats make for impressive reading. Overall carbon emissions have dropped by 69%, energy consumption by 33%, and water usage by 45% in the last 13 years.

Construction is underway for the SEAT al Sol 2 solar plant, set to become a renewable energy powerhouse upon its completion in 2025. This 233,000-square-meter project will boast 39,000 solar panels. That’s expected to triple the company’s self-generation capacity, delivering 29 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean energy.

Moreover, SEAT has introduced the Volkswagen Group’s inaugural electric paint drying oven in Martorell. It may not sound like much, but significant energy is used in every step of the car production pipeline. This state-of-the-art oven slashes energy consumption by 25%, equivalent to the carbon emissions of over 550 cars annually.

Looking ahead, SEAT has set ambitious targets for carbon neutrality. It aims to achieve this milestone in its facilities by 2040 and across its entire operation by 2050.

SEAT S.A.’s remarkable 2023 figures prove that truly sustainable vehicle production is within our grasp. The classic reference point for this, and the much-awaited milestone, is the production of the Polestar 0. This ambitious project aims to become the world’s first entirely climate-neutral car.

With companies slashing emissions to hit impending targets, the dream of carbon-neutral vehicle production inches closer. SEAT’s achievements are a comforting and impressive reminder of how far the industry has come already. The best part is – we’re not done yet.
