Saudi Arabia’s largest off-grid EV charging network is only the beginning of Red Sea Global’s electrification plans
Red Sea Global (RSG) has successfully completed the installation of the largest off-grid EV charging network in Saudi Arabia.
More than 150 charging stations are in place across phase one of The Red Sea destination area. They power RSG’s initial fleet of 80 electric Lucid and Mercedes vehicles.
Exclusive to guest transport, the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Lucid Air vehicles offer seamless transport. Guests at The Red Sea can now travel between the destination’s airport, resorts, and facilities using these high-end EVs.
Beyond revolutionizing travel, this initiative also contributes significantly to the local economy. RSG has established a robust infrastructure to maintain and operate the EV fleet, creating 1,500 job opportunities. These roles serve as further proof of the positive domino effects of green investment.
Aiming for complete carbon neutrality upon full operation, The Red Sea is set to become the world’s largest destination powered entirely by renewable energy. Five expansive solar farms are equipped with 760,000 photovoltaic panels to fuel not just the EV fleet, but also the entire destination.
Andreas Flourou, Group Head of Mobility at Red Sea Global, said:
“Red Sea Global heralds a new era of cutting-edge mobility with Saudi Arabia’s premier luxury EV fleet marking a milestone in sustainable transportation. The addition of Mercedes-Benz EQS and Lucid Airs, powered by our solar grid, reinforces our commitment to regenerative tourism. Our carbon-neutral operations provide guests with a seamless and stylish travel experience, while creating new jobs and empowering young Saudis.”
As The Red Sea welcomes its first guests this year, it marks a pivotal moment in the intersection of luxury, sustainability, and innovation. This project signifies Saudi Arabia’s commitment to eco-friendly solutions and sets a global benchmark for carbon-neutral operations in the hospitality and transportation sectors.
