The United Nations COP26 Climate Change Conference held in Glasgow has come to an end and there has been plenty of positive talks and declarations from many countries around the world.
The government has produced its COP26 declaration on accelerating the transition to 100 percent zero emission cars and vans. The aim is to work towards all sales of new cars and vans being zero emission globally by 2040, and by no later than 2035 in leading markets.
One important result regarding mobility is that 30 countries have agreed to work together to make zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) the new normal by making them accessible, affordable and sustainable in all regions by 2030 or sooner.
A number of emerging markets, including India, Mexico, Kenya and Rwanda, have agreed to accelerate the transition to ZEVs in their markets.
There has also been the launch of a new World Bank trust fund that will mobilise $200 million over the next 10 years to decarbonise road transport in emerging markets and developing economies.
The declaration also outlines cities, states and regional governments, working towards converting owned or leased car and van fleets to zero emission vehicles by 2035 at the latest. Plus, putting in place policies that will enable, accelerate or otherwise incentivise the transition to zero emission vehicles as soon as possible.
For business fleet owners and operators, or shared mobility platforms, they will work towards 100 percent of car and van fleets being zero emission vehicles by 2030, or earlier where markets allow.
