This morning the two-day 2021 EV Summit has got off to a good start at University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School. The event brings together business leaders and key players working on electric vehicles, energy, information technology and charging infrastructure, to explore how to advance towards full battery-electric emobility.
Now in its fourth year, the EV Summit has earned the epithet ‘the Davos for emobility’, noted for attracting CEO speakers and as a platform for major announcements in the sector.
The Summit is based around 10 panels across its two days and these cover the significant business issues on the rapid transition to battery electric mobiity. This year the EV Summit is placing the master narrative of decarbonisation at the centre of the event.

As the event kicked off guests and passers-by have been greeted by a fanfare of all things electric mobility. On display outside the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School are several of the latest electric vehicles (EVs).
Hyundai are showing their new zero-emissions IONIQ 5 all-electric crossover, which has been one of the biggest electric car releases of the year and here at ElectricDrives we are huge fans. Not only is it a great looking car but it’s also a great performer and wonderful to drive. Along with this, Hyundai also have their Kona Electric, which was awarded a five-star Green NCAP rating for energy efficiency and emissions.
Polestar, who are a guiding star when it comes to sustainability, have their impressive Polestar 2 on display. This stylish all-electric crossover has won many awards including Germany’s coveted Golden Steering Wheel and Top Gear’s Best All-Rounder in their Electric Awards 2021.
LeasePlan are also displaying their latest Arrival truck. Earlier this year the company announced it would be the preferred operational leasing partner for ARRIVAL electric vans. The partnership is based on an initial order of 3,000 vans, with the sales agreement expected to be finalised in the third quarter of 2021.
Alongside these electric vehicles (EVs) is Electric Assisted Vehicles (EAV) with their EAV2Charge. The Oxfordshire-based micro-mobility manufacturer are exhibiting their highly successful EAV2Cubed model that is currently being used by Oxford’s famous Covered Market. This is part of a £200,000 government-funded trial to new zero-emissions delivery methods in the city.
The EV Summit has Visa as the lead partner. They are joined by other partners including Arup, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, DNV, EY, Go With Flow, Greenflux, Improved Corporate Finance, Shell Recharge, Wood and Zaptech.
