Polestar to launch the Polestar 6 performance electric roadster

Following the news we brought you earlier this year of Polestar’s O₂ convertible concept, the Swedish electric performance car manufacturer has announced that  it will go into production. The production car is expected to launch in 2026 and has been dubbed the Polestar 6.

Interested customers in all active Polestar markets for the electric performance roadster will be able to reserve a car online from 16 August 2022.

The electric convertible was first revealed in Los Angeles back in March as the Polestar O₂ concept. This electric vehicle (EV) builds on the design, technology and sustainability ambitions laid out by the Polestar Precept and showcases the brand’s vision for the future of sports cars.

The hard-top convertible will be built on Polestar’s bespoke bonded aluminium platform. Developed in-house, it will feature the high-performance 800-volt electric architecture already confirmed for the slick-looking Polestar 5 due for launch in 2024.

This includes an impressive output of up to 650kW (884hp) and 900Nm of torque from its dual motor powertrain. It will have a target acceleration of 0-62mph (0-100 kph) in just 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 155mph (250kph).

THOMAS INGENLATH, POLESTAR CEO, SAID: “WITH THE OVERWHELMING CONSUMER AND PRESS RESPONSE, WE TOOK THE DECISION TO PUT THIS STUNNING ROADSTER INTO PRODUCTION AND I AM SO EXCITED TO MAKE IT A REALITY. POLESTAR 6 IS A PERFECT COMBINATION OF POWERFUL ELECTRIC PERFORMANCE AND THE THRILL OF FRESH AIR WITH THE TOP DOWN.”

We’re sure that every petrolhead out there reading this won’t fail to be impressed and the Polestar 6. We think it will become the benchmark for performance electric roadsters in the coming years.

To celebrate the launch, 500 numbered units of a special ‘LA Concept’ version, the ‘Polestar 6 LA Concept edition’, are planned to be produced. They will exclusively feature the unique ‘Sky’ blue exterior finish with a light leather interior and feature the same unique 21-inch wheels of the original Polestar O₂ concept.

Further technical details and specification confirmations will be released as the production car becomes reality, leading up to the expected launch in 2026.

Polestar, a true believer in transparent car production, also recently announced the launch of its first SUV, the Polestar 3, which will take place in October 2022. Also impressive is that Polestar aims to produce a truly climate-neutral car by 2030.
